Theisje van Dorsten is an assistant professor in arts, culture and cognition at University College Groningen, The Netherlands. She specializes in arts education and the role that the arts can play in the development of children and adolescents. Theisje loves to draw and craft with her daughters, explore nature and can always be found immersed in a book or two in the evening.
Julia Doornbos is a cultural geographer and works as a lecturer and postdoctoral researcher at University College Groningen and the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, both University of Groningen, the Netherlands. Her doctoral research centered around the postcolonial everyday geographies of Indo-European families in the Netherlands. Aside from academic output, she worked together with the families from the research to write a book, as a collection of their histories and experiences. Julia’s research interests tend to revolve around everyday places and experiences of in- and exclusion; senses of belonging; memory work; postcolonialism, diaspora and (forced) migration.
Alexandra Strzynski is a second year student at the University College Groningen. She is a free major focusing on social sciences. This is her second year working with the Digifolk project.
Donghao Jia was growing up in Southern China before moving to the Netherlands in 2022. His interest in Sociology derived from his passion in understanding society and different cultures. Traveling and interacting with people all over the world allow him to perceive social issues in more comprehensive perspectives.

I major in Social Sciences and enjoy maintaining a well-rounded lifestyle, with a balance of academics, physical exercise, work, and social events and encounters. I am currently in my second year of studying Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College Groningen. Upcoming fall, I will be studying Cultural Anthropology in Taiwan where I hope to expand my knowledge on human ways of life.

The first two years I am studying Liberal Arts and Science at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and I will start next year with Philosophy, International and Economic Studies at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. Beyond academics, my interests gravitate towards the (performing) arts, engaging in debates, and exploring new corners of the world!

While I am not overloaded by schoolwork, I very much like to do outdoor activities and socialize with my peers. I am originally from Cluj Napoca, Romania, where I completed my primary, middle and high school before moving to the Netherlands for my undergraduate degree.

Emma Trip Fabara is an Ecuadorian native and student at University College Groningen, majoring in social sciences, she’s passionate about communication, marketing, and business. Beyond academics, she delves into photography, video editing, and storytelling, creating captivating content for social media. With experience as a community manager for sports clubs and startups, Emma excels in brand building and fostering client communities. This passion for communication led her to participate in the DigiFolk project with the prospect of acquiring practical experience and making meaningful contributions to the research of folktales.
I am Maite Hannah Fischer from Germany, currently in my first year at University College Groningen. I am 20 years old and pursuing a degree in liberal arts and sciences within the humanities and social sciences. I am still in the early stages of my academic journey but my academic pursuits are deeply rooted in a fascination with culture studies and an interest in the diverse societies and regions that shape our world.
Zuzanna Gonczaryk is a first year student of Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College of Groningen, where she majors in Social Sciences.
Hadrian Tucker-D’Hollander was born and grew up in Montreal, Canada, in a multicultural setting that inspired his interests. A first-year bachelor’s Liberal Arts and Sciences student at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. Alongside his interests in political science, philosophy, and visual art, his diverse cultural background has encouraged further interest in the DigiFolk project and how to reduce ignorance regarding several minority communities, many of whom are marginalized. His ambition is to find better methods and strategies to integrate all communities and peoples into a just community or society wherever they reside through research and first-hand experiences, projects like DigiFolk are a great vessel to discuss and work on this problem.
Sofia Pereira is 19 years old. She is currently a first year student at the University College Groningen.
My name is Agáta. I come from Czechia, yet currently I live in Groningen, where I study Liberal Arts and Sciences. In the future I want to do cultural anthropology. As a part of the team focused on Groningen’s Chinese community, I participate in the curation process by writing scripts and partly by creating the visual of the stories.
