Digitizing the folktales of a city – sharing the wisdom of the Other

      Project Intro

This project aims at collecting and digitizing folktales, stories of wisdom, from ethnic, religious and racial groups residing in the cities involved in the project (Nicosia, Belgrade, Ankara, and Groningen) and make them easily accessible and freely available to everyone.

    project goal

By collecting, curating, digitizing and sharing the cultural products of these communities DigiFolk gives voice to communities which hold minority status in European societies. Visit the DigiFolk platform to watch the curated stories.

    e-platform

The outputs of DigiFolk include all stories collected as part of the project, DigiFolk’s methodology guide, guidelines on how to digitize and curate stories, a Do-It-Yourself Digifolk guide, mini-documentaries of how the project was implemented in the four participating cities, and virtual city tours based on the digitized folktales. All materials are made available in the project’s e-platform.

      Project outreach & dissemination

The project engages educators, students, members of marginalised communities, NGOs, policy makers, researchers, and artists among others. Dissemination of the project’s outputs includes city tours of the four cities participating in the project. Here are examples of DigiFolk’s outreach activities.

🌍Ankara DigiFolk team concluded their research with a final workshop last Wednesday, November 27th.

🎓The workshop was attended by students, researchers and community members who participated in the project’s story collection phase. After a brief introduction to the project, its objectives and its methodology, the participants were presented with some of the curated stories.

🎯Following an interactive Q&A session, the participants were invited to an Ankara city tour prepared by the DigiFolk Ankara team that included 5 significant spots of the city where they listened to 5 folktales curated in the project’s framework. The tour ended with taking a photo of a tired yet happy and enthusiastic group!
